How to get out of debt, pt. 2

Last week, I gave three foundational steps to get out of debt and break poverty over your life. Here they are in review, but for more details read last week’s blog.

1. Believe that God is a debt canceling God.

2. All poverty and debt is rooted in sin.

3. Review your spending habits.

4. Today I will start with step 4, which is tithing. Tithing is the key to having God’s provision released in our life. This godly principle is the one that Satan opposes the most in a Christian’s life. It pertains to the “law of the first fruits” which simply says that the first part of any fruit you produce belongs to God. Tithing is part of that law. The first fruit of our income (10%) belongs to God and the 90% that is left is ours.

In the book of Malachi, God promises that if we don’t rob Him and we give what rightfully belongs to Him, He will release His abundance, provisions and protection. Always remember: God’s ways are not our ways. If we expect God’s word to fit our logic and understanding, we’ll miss Him every time.

It comes down to these two questions about our tithes: Is Jesus really Lord over our life? Do we really want to get out of debt?

5. Break the curse. Poverty and debt are curses that won’t go away unless forcefully broken. Matthew 12:11 says, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” In other words, Satan and his demons must be forcibly removed from our life in the name of Jesus.

We can assume that we are under the effects of a curse if we experience a cycle of negative events repeating over and over again. We break free, only to fall back into the debt cycle again. Sometimes expenses rise out of nowhere, our car breaks down, we lose a job, etc. If they happen consistently, it is a sign that a curse of debt and poverty is over your life. Here is how to break it according to God’s word.

Identify that it’s a curse. Galatians 3:13 and 14 tells us Jesus became a curse for us so that we could have the blessings of Abraham (including prosperity).

Declare, “In Jesus’ name I break the curse of poverty, lack and debt over my life!” If you haven’t done step two from my last message, add it in this prayer and declaration.

Release the blessing of prosperity, abundance and multiplication in the name of Jesus. This is a war that must be fought in the spiritual realm and the weapons of warfare are not carnal—they are spiritual.

6. Constantly renew your mind with God’s word. Remind yourself that you live in God’s kingdom, not Satan’s anymore. Your God is generous and desires that you live the abundant life Jesus purchased for you. He made provision for you to be prosperous for His kingdom purposes (if you are doing His works, not your own).

Ask yourself, “Why do I want to get out of debt and have poverty broken off my life?” If your answer doesn’t include something like being Jesus Christ’s representative, you’ve missed the whole purpose of your redemption!

By applying all six steps to your everyday life; deliverance from poverty and living in debt is a sure thing. The greatest challenge is to recognize that Satan doesn’t want you to be financially free because then he can’t control your life. This is war and you must be in it to win it! Stay in the fight and don’t give up. BECAUSE OF JESUS WE WIN!  …

Discover the true you

Our blog on Life Coaching stirred a lot of interest. A number of you were curious about what kind of tools a coach uses. Actually, that depends on what area the client desires to work on. One tool we use if the client is unsure of where they’d like to start is the Wheel of Life Assessment. This exercise helps you see areas where your life is out of balance and where there’s need for change.

Life wheel assessment

The first step is to rank your satisfaction in each of these areas of life from one to ten. The categories together create a picture of a balanced life for you. If necessary, you can split a category segment to add something that’s missing, or re-label an area to make the Wheel more applicable to your life.

 8 Most Common Life Areas:

  • God: Your spiritual life
  • Family: Spouse, children, significant other
  • Work: Your career, ministry, volunteering
  • Finances: Budget, income, investments, retirement
  • Living Environment: Home, apartment, office, car, etc.
  • Personal Growth: What you do to learn and improve yourself
  • Health: Everything you do to take care of yourself
  • Community: Friends, social life, recreation

Using the Assessment:

Once the assessment is filled out your coach would discuss some of the following general questions with you and see which area you’d like to work on.

  • How do you feel about your life as you look at your Wheel?
  • Are there any surprises for you?
  • Which of these categories would you most like to improve?
  • What would make a lasting difference, not just a temporary one?
  • If making this change was easy, you would have done it already. What makes it difficult?

More specific questions if you chose one of these areas:

God

  • Describe your relationship with God. What is it like?
  • What do you aspire to in this area? What is your ideal?
  • What is the gap? What’s missing?

Family

  • What’s best about your marriage/family life? What would you most to like to see change?
  • Paint me a picture of what a great marriage or family life would look like to you.
  • What are you committed to in this area?

Work

  • What makes you satisfied/dissatisfied with your work?
  • What’s most important to you in a job? How well does your current job supply that?
  • What needs to change?

Finances

  • What led you to rank ‘Finances’ as a_______?
  • Give me a quick overview of what’s going on in your financial life. What’s got your attention?
  • What would you like to see change this year in your finances?

Living Environment

  • How do the things you own enhance your life? How do they detract from it?
  • What in your environment bothers you or drains your energy?
  • If you could make one change in your living environment what would it be?

Personal Growth

  • Where are you motivated to improve yourself or your abilities right now?
  • What one new skill would make all the difference right now in reaching your dreams?
  • What skills, attributes or areas do you want to develop this year?

Health (Self Care)

  • How’s your health?
  • What are you tolerating or coping with in this area?
  • Where do you need to take better care of your body, mind, or emotions?

 Community

  • Describe your social life. How satisfied are you with that?
  • What do you want in a friend? Where are those kind of people in your life?
  • Tell me about the last time you planned some fun time?

Seeing these areas laid out before you with the ratings you’ve given them, should give you some idea of where you’d like to focus your efforts for change. Of course, many people come to coaching already knowing what they want to work on. Setting boundaries, dealing with obstacles, how to detox a toxic relationship, to name a few.

A take away assignment could be to brainstorm some actions to raise your satisfaction in the areas you scored lowest in, or would most like to improve.

I hope this was helpful and gave you some further insight into coaching. Maybe even some things to think about in your own life. If you have any questions, you can leave them in the comment box. I’ll be happy to answer.…

How to receive a right-now miracle, pt. 2

Last week, I said that our present way of thinking is at war with the way God wants us to think. If what you need is a right-now miracle, the way we live now cannot attain it! Why?

  1. Our motives are wrong.
  2. We pray about things we should be speaking to. (See last week’s message for a fuller explanation.) Therefore, we need to:
  3. We must get fully persuaded. Do you see yourself healed? Your marriage restored? If you can see it, you can have it! Belief is what catapults your faith to tear down the strongholds of the enemy. Many times, we confess things with our mouths that we don’t really believe. So how do you bridge the gap?

Your worship applies salt to the source of the problem.

Find one or two scriptures that promise what you need and soak in them. Meditating on the Word of God helps you to absorb it. The more you absorb, the more you believe. Begin to see yourself in that promise. You should be able to close your eyes and see it taking place in your life.

  1. Take the limits off God. Get rid of the pre-conceived idea of how God is going to bless you. Rather, work on falling in love with Jesus all over again. Do you remember what it was like to be in love? Spend time thinking about Him. Magnify His beauty and power instead of what you’re facing.
  2. Admit that you have a problem. Look back at 2 Kings 2:19-22. The city looked good outwardly, but its people were dying and barren. You and I can look good on the outside but be filled with barrenness. You go to church, shout Hallelujah. But something’s not right. You have a nice house but you have to work five jobs. You’re in a relationship now, but it’s your fifth marriage. You’re hanging on healthwise, but it’s the medication that keeps you going. And you don’t remember the last time someone came to Christ because of you. On the other hand, if you’re losing your life for Christ’s sake, there will be great fruitfulness seen in your life.
  3. Get to the source of the problem. In order to heal the water, Elisha went to its source and cast in salt. The source is your spirit, and we “salt” our spirits through worship. Worship aligns our spirit with God. He is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth.

In Florida, dehydration can cause all kinds of health issues. Your organs can shut down. People get heart attacks because they don’t drink enough water.

Worship hydrates us and restores fruitfulness. But worship is so much more than singing songs on Sunday. It’s meditating on His Word, pressing into God, praying, digging into the artesian well of His presence. Forgiving those who offend us is a powerful act of worship. Bless those who hurt you, and you’ll begin to notice your land is no longer barren.

Worship applies salt to the source of the problem, like Elisha did. And it’s not just for you. Your worship today will bless generations to come.

If you want a miracle right now, get into the presence of God. Absorb His Word and fall in love with Him all over again.

If this blog has been a blessing to you, please leave a comment below. We love to hear from you!

How to receive a right-now miracle, pt. 1

The men of a certain city called on Elisha the prophet to heal their water supply saying, “Please notice, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the ground barren (2Kings 2:19).” Many Christians are like that city. We look pleasant from the outside, but we are barren and fruitless. We come to church and shout Hallelujah!, but something is not right.

We trust a god of our imagination—not the true and living God of the Bible. God gives us His Word but, like the tribes of Israel who molded a golden calf while Moses tarried on the mountain, we have created a faulty image of God that cannot help or save us.

The Bible says. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.” Yet, we wake up in the morning and the first thing we think of is the problems and people we must face that day. We bellyache and complain all day and, if anything, we give Him the leftovers. When it comes down to it, we believe the world system more than God.

If you don’t speak to the mountain, the mountain will speak to you.

With the devil’s help, we’re missing out on God’s great and precious promises. Satan blinds our minds to the light of the glorious gospel. The truth is we can be free. The Book of James tells us: “ Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church… And the prayer of faith will save the sick… (James 5:14, 15).” Instead of calling the elders, today’s Christians call for the ambulance!

If what you need is a right-now miracle, the way we live now cannot attain it! Why?

1. Our motives are wrong. Our prayers are more about us than about God and His kingdom. Therefore, they don’t touch God’s heart. It’s really about His kingdom and His glory. God loves you, but He won’t bless you just because He loves you. He will bless you because of His word. The way of escape is in His word.

2. We pray about things we should be speaking to. The Bible tells us to speak to the mountains in our lives (Mark 11:23). Meanwhile, we pray: “Oh, God take this sickness away from me,” when we should be saying, “By Jesus’ stripes I’m healed. Mountain of cancer, be gone!” If you don’t speak to the mountain, the mountain will speak to you. Poverty will say Forget it. You’ll never get ahead. Your marriage says It’s all over. File for divorce. Sickness says There’s no hope. You might as well plan your funeral. You and I need to:

3. Get fully persuaded. Do you see yourself healed? Your marriage restored? You are at war—but it’s not with the devil. The war is between the belief system you now have and the one God wants you to have. If you can see it, you can have it. Belief is what catapults your faith to tear down the strongholds of the enemy.

Next week, I’ll give you the final 3 tips to getting your right-now miracle.…

Family First

Family First (what I also call “Fighting for the Family”) was a conference we recently held here in the church.  I believe that this topic is so important. It is vital to recognize that the very fiber of the structure of America and even civilization itself is based upon the family unit. Since the beginning of time, mankind has built society and every culture on the principles of one husband, one wife and the children. In other words…. The family.

Matthew 18:19&20, “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

As you can see from these verses, the Christian family fits the description of the “two or three.” That means that they have a built-in ability to have the power of God flowing in their midst. God manifests Himself in the midst of the family. God is pro-family!

Unfortunately, throughout history and especially in this hour, we see the family constantly attacked and decimated. We need to understand that Satan’s number one target is the family. He starts with the wife and the husband by trying to create division between them. If he can keep the parents fighting, the children are put in a vulnerable position. And if he can take out one or both of the parents, the children are left with an “orphan spirit.”

We have a lot of adults today that deal with an orphan spirit because their mother and father were never really in their life fulfilling their parent role. They didn’t get the nurture, love, discipline and acceptance that they needed.

Let’s fight for the family today; not just only for our own. Let’s fight for the families that are within the sphere of our influence. How do we do that?

Number one: We need to truly recognize in our heart that families are important to God.

Number two: We should always look for opportunities to encourage husbands and wives to stay in their covenant relationships. If they are struggling with physical, emotional or spiritual issues, let’s offer help to ease their burdens. We need to pray for them.

Number 3- We must reach out to children, the forgotten generation. Remember that Jesus always had children always around Him.

Mark 10:13-16, “Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.  He said “suffer not the little children come to me for such is the kingdom of heaven.”

Mark 9:24, “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.”

I think these verses say it all! Jesus wants us to care for, love and reach out to children. It is against God’s heart to say things like “children should be seen and not heard.” Our attitude has to change, our way of life has to change and the way we do church has to change. Children and families need to be the center of our attention and our focus.

Let’s fight for the family today. Let’s put it first in our hearts. Let’s put it first in our Christian life. Let’s put it first in our warfare. Let’s take back America by once again taking our families back for Jesus.…

Prayers that get answered

A cute story

I heard a cute story about a lady who bought a singing parrot at a pet store. However, she returned it the next day, explaining that the parrot didn’t sing. The pet store owner asked if the parrot had a mirror, since parrots like to look at themselves. So she bought a mirror and took the parrot back home. The next morning she was back again. The mirror hadn’t helped; the parrot still hadn’t sung or spoken a word.

The store owner then asked if she had a ladder, since parrots like to climb up and down. So she bought the parrot a ladder. The next day she brought him back again and told the owner he still wouldn’t sing.

He asked, “Well, do you have a swing in the cage? Parrots love to swing; it makes them happy. He’ll certainly start singing and speaking then.”

However, the next day the woman was back! The store owner asked, “Did the parrot sing or speak yet?” “No,” she replied. “He died last night!”

The owner said, “I’m so sorry to hear that. Did he say anything before he died?” “Yes,” the woman replied. “He said, ‘Don’t they sell any food down there at the pet store?’”

Like this parrot owner, we often ask God for things that we want, rather than what we need. Instead, most of our requests are to fulfill our fleshly desires.

Business before pleasure

In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus promises that if we take care of His business here on earth, He will take care of our wants. In verse 33 He says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” God will supply anything necessary to fulfill His mandate in our life.

In Luke 11:1-3, Jesus gives us the prototype for prayer. Yes, God does care about our wants. Yes, He encourages us to pray, but we should do so with His heart in mind. In His model prayer, Jesus states that we can ask Him for our daily needs (bread) and He will meet those needs.

Our purpose in praying is to release His will, desire and kingdom authority here on earth and in our sphere of influence. That means we are to omit any requests that just fulfill our own wants.

Answered prayer rocks!

Whenever our prayers align with God’s heart, they are answered, and answered prayer is exciting! It releases a desire to pray more. But prayer without results is boring. James 4:3 says: “You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”

Let’s stop being selfish in prayer. Look around and see how to advance the cause of Jesus Christ in our families, workplaces, relationships and, yes, our churches!

Let’s ask for whatever it takes to see His will “on earth as it is in heaven”. He will surely supply everything we need—money, health, wisdom, joy, jobs, places to live…—when that’s our goal. Ask for what you need to fulfill God’s plan in and through your life. Then watch heaven open and release the answers to your prayers. Prayer can once again be very exciting if we ask for what we need and not what we want!…
