When God speaks

Years ago when I was into reading women’s magazines, there was a monthly article called “Can This Marriage Be Saved?” I wasn’t a Christian at the time and didn’t realize that everything I needed to know about life and marriage could be found in the Bible.

I came to Christ when Gaspar and I separated after five long, painful years of arguing and making each other absolutely miserable. That’s when I turned to the Word of God to make sense of my life.

The first time I opened the Bible, my eyes fell on Hebrews 13:5: “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” I had felt so alone and abandoned, but suddenly it was like God was speaking directly to me. I didn’t need magazine articles anymore. I had the God of the Universe talking to me.

That was the beginning of the Lord healing my heart, changing me from the inside out, and giving me the faith to believe for the restoration of my marriage. I was blessed to find a good church where I was loved and nurtured in the Word and surrounded by sisters-in-Christ who prayed for and encouraged me.

I didn’t need magazine articles anymore. I had the God of the Universe talking to me.

What every marriage needs most

Your partner as top priority

Have you ever had a plant that you accidently ignored and forgot to water? Before long it shriveled up and died. The same thing can happen to a marriage. From my own experience and years of counseling hurting couples, I see many marriages falter because we put our relationship on the back burner. With all the demands of life, it’s all too easy to forget that our marriage needs care and nurturing to thrive.

With all the demands of life, it’s all too easy to forget that our marriage needs care and nurturing to thrive.

Yours may be in a bad place right now because of neglect. To save or revive your marriage, you need to make your partner your top priority and give them some much-needed attention. The ingredients for a healthy, thriving marriage are time, touch, attention, appreciation, and affirmation. Whether your marriage is totally withered or barely breathing, it can be revived and restored!

A date night on the calendar

When couples are married for a while, they begin to take each other for granted. They lose touch with their partner, and their connection is broken. So the first step (and I’ve said this in more than a few blogs) is to schedule a regular date night. And don’t let anything get in the way of keeping it. When you do this, it speaks volumes. It says that your marriage is a priority. Having a regular date night will help you to reconnect again.

Reconnecting takes time and effort. We give the couples in our Sacred Marriage group questions to talk about on their date night. They all agree that the questions stir up conversation that helps them feel more connected.

Positive vibes in the heart

Another hinderance in marriage is focusing on all our partner’s negative points. It’s an easy habit to fall into, and it consumes our thinking, which affects our attitude and actions.

Healthy marriages thrive because the couples give more attention to praise and appreciation. Sharing words of affirmation does wonders. When something good happens, take notice and tell your spouse. It doesn’t have to be huge; the point is to change how you relate to each other. Changing the way we think changes the way we feel, which changes the way we act.

Changing the way we think changes the way we feel, which changes the way we act.

Outreach for help

When we marry, no one tells us how to make it work. No one teaches us how to be a good husband or wife. It’s no wonder most couples just muddle through until they hit a brick wall. Every marriage can use some help navigating rough patches. Thank God for Pastors, counselors, and marriage coaches. Their help can guide you through issues that seem insurmountable. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help.

Saving a marriage takes a lot of unconditional love, patience, forgiveness, patience, time, patience, dying to self, patience, kindness, and a big dose of patience.

Galatians 6:9

Up-reach to God

Even if your spouse has left or shows no interest in making things better, what’s stopping you from working on yourself? You become the person and spouse God wants you to be! When someone asks me, “Can I save my marriage alone?” I tell them, “You aren’t alone. God is with you and He’s on your side, fighting for your marriage.” When you change, everything around you will change. Working on who God created you to be can change your marriage. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Did I mention patience?

Saving a marriage takes a lot of unconditional love, patience, forgiveness, patience, time, patience, dying to self, patience, kindness, and a big dose of patience. You can’t do it in your own strength but, with God, all things are possible.

As you’re standing and believing for your marriage, don’t be discouraged. Change doesn’t happen overnight. Know that all the good seeds you’re planting will take time to sprout. Be patient and hold on to Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

God is speaking directly to you. Do you hear Him?

Awaken the superhero in you

A healthy spirit enables us to communicate with God and one another. Spiritually healthy couples can meet each other through their spirit being—not just their emotions and physical body. Your human spirit, when healthy and fully awake, connects with your mate and demonstrates empathy for them.

That means your spirit can identify with your mate’s deep inner needs and actually feels what they feel. We become aware of our mate’s emotions beyond just our intellect. Being spiritually awake gives us the ability to know what he or she needs and how to meet the need without having to guess. Couples that are spiritually healthy can discern when their mate needs a hug; when they need to be left alone; and when it’s important to reach out and invade their space.

Sleeping spirits and hurting hearts

Couples with slumbering spirits are relegated to guessing what’s right to do and what’s not. Most of the time, they miss prime opportunities to communicate the kind of love for each other that will keep them together. The inability to connect with each other’s spirit (where true life and love stem from), is one of the major causes of divorce.

A husband’s slumbering spirit makes him selfish and self-centered, unable to connect with God and his mate as well. This husband thinks all is well, and he doesn’t understand why his wife is shutting down emotionally. He is disconnected from her heart because he is asleep spiritually.

A wife whose spirit is asleep might not recognize when her husband needs a word of encouragement instead of judgment. Therefore, she misses her opportunity to connect her love to his. We pay a lot of attention to the physical and emotional parts of us but very little to the spiritual.

Life that makes us one

Proverbs 4:23 says “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”

“Life” in this scripture refers to the God-kind of life that, when released in and through us, will bring the two of you into true oneness. As husband and wife, you will never reach true oneness unless you live your marriage out of a healthy spirit. True oneness is a place of joy, peace and fulfillment in your marriage. You can tell your spirit is slumbering when your love for one another is stale, stuck in the past or the romance/passion is gone.

Thankfully, there is something you both can do to revitalize your marriage and protect it from collapsing: Wake up your spirit. Here are a few suggestions.

How to awaken your spirit

1).     Get out of denial and recognize that you need a new fire for your mate lit in your heart.

2).     Recognize that you are a spirit, have a soul and live in a body. Ask God to forgive you for not nurturing your spirit. You nurture your spirit by feeding it the word of God and watching what enters your ear and eye gates.

3).     Let your mate know that you desire a closer relationship with them. And whether they do or not, you will pursue oneness with your whole heart. That’s when your faith in God will be released in and through your spirit to remove the mountains of indifference and slumber in your spirit.

4).     Don’t give up. God’s life will be pumped into your spirit as you reconnect with His Spirit through His word. You will begin to discern your mate’s needs and navigate through their mood swings. You’ll begin to meet them right where they are and connect with their hearts.

It won’t be long before your husband or wife is inspired to awaken their slumbering spirit. I will give you more tips in my next blog. God bless you and thank you for reading our blogs. I hope they are helpful. If they are, I would like to hear from you.

Overcoming the mountains in your life

Do the problems you face seem bigger than life…even bigger than God Himself? Well, I am here to tell you that they aren’t! God is infinitely greater than any problem you face or ever will. The question you need to ask is: Which is bigger, your God or your mountain? Unfortunately, too many of us would answer that our mountain is bigger.

Mountains or opportunities?

Our mountains reveal how small and incapable we are to move them out of the way. But they also offer an incredible opportunity to discover how great and awesome God really is. Recognize today that your mountain can actually be a blessing in disguise!

The first step to overcome your mountain is to get a fresh revelation of God. Isaiah needed this fresh revelation when he faced his mountain. He faced a leadership crisis in his life and in the nation at the death of King Uzziah.

Isaiah 6:1 says, “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.” His discouragement and hopelessness evaporated when God gave him a vision of His greatness—literally changing the prophet’s life forever. Isaiah now had revelation that, what was impossible for him, was indeed possible for his God.

Understand that God is great and your problem is no match for Him. Get alone with God, with the intention of seeking Him to download a strategy to overcome the mountain you face. Remember the advice that the Lord’s brother gives us in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” Keep a pen and paper with you to write down the best four or five possible solutions. Believe that the word God gives you is His strategy to remove your mountain. His promises are true and when applied; they release His power against your mountain.

With humility, prayer and openness to the Holy Spirit, step out in faith to act on one of those solutions. Trust God to close some doors and to open others, unveiling even more possibilities.

Connect with people who are solution-oriented, not with people who just sympathize with you and your problems. There aren’t too many visionaries in the world today who see the end from the beginning! Be careful to guard your heart from adopting a victim mentality.

In conclusion, no matter what problems you face, relational, marital, financial, emotional, vocational; you’ll find a solution if you have a revelation of how big God truly is. God loves to work with people who know they need His strength. The Lord told the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9a, “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed and defeated in life; move your mountain…..you can, you know!

The Perfect Dad

This weekend, the world celebrates fathers. But I want to draw your attention to a Dad we seldom connect with Father’s Day. Yet, He’s the world’s only perfect Dad. He is the role model for all fathers.

Our God is the kind of Father Who will never turn His back on you, no matter what you do or don’t do. He’s the kind of Dad who longs to be loved, adored and cherished. He’s the kind of Father that, regardless of the time of day or night, yearns to hear your heart beat.

God is the kind of Father that, when everybody else has turned you off, waits patiently with open arms and an open heart for you to come to Him — knowing He was your last choice.

He’s a Father into whose lap you can crawl and on whose chest you can lay your head, knowing that His strong, always-willing arms will hold you tight. And with a voice full of strength and compassion He’ll comfort you with: “Everything will be alright.”

He’s the kind of Father that, not only gives sound advice and direction for your life, but much needed correction and gentle, but sure, instruction.

He’s the kind of Father that always has some special little gift for you. He delights in letting you go through His pockets to find that treat He has stored there just for you.

He’s a Father that you can’t help but love and respect as Father; but Whom you can also reach your arms out to and adore as Daddy.

Wow, that almost seems too good to be true! Yet, our God who created each of us, has made Himself to be all those things I just described.

Yes, God is a Father who would never reject His children. Yet He weeps over His many children who have rejected Him.

From the beginning, God has desperately wanted that kind of close Father/child relationship with us, His creation. But beginning with Adam and Eve, we have chosen the fatherhood of a lesser god called satan.

Instead of being lavished with love, compassion and blessings, we’ve been abused, molested and rejected. Satan steals from his own kids and denies them love because he has none to give.

Still others are spiritual orphans. That describes many Christians. They have rejected satan, accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, but haven’t allowed His Father to be theirs.

God promises in II Corinthians 6:17-18: “… come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Turn your whole heart over to God right now and stop dabbling in sin. Our loving Father has a place on His lap reserved just for you.

He longs for your love. Don’t let anything delay your entering the warm embrace of your loving Father God today.…

Your trials can benefit you, pt. 1

It’s true that life is full of trials, but it’s also true that we often fail to recognize the benefits they provide for us. You’re probably saying, “You’ve got to be kidding!” No, I’m not kidding! Let’s examine just a few hidden benefits they provide for us, because to discover these hidden treasures in trials, we must look deeper than just on the surface.

When you’re traveling ion unknown territories you need a map and compass. Trials can provide a compass. Letting us know if we are on or off course in our journey with God. For example, Jonah was running away from God’s will. He lost his bearings as many of us do at times. Like Jonah, we don’t do what we should and we wander in the wrong direction. God sent a storm to Jonah, and a whale to swallow him and you may wonder where the benefit was in this trial?

Jonah’s trial was not sent to kill him. God’s grace in action through this trial helped him fulfill God’s purpose for his life, saved him from throwing away his God-given destiny and it put him in the right direction. Jonah got back on course and God used him to save a nation from destruction. Could the trial you face today have the same purpose? Are you running from God, knowing His call but wanting to do something else? Is God trying to get your attention to turn back to His purpose for your Life?

In Chapter 4 & 5 in the Gospel of Mark, when Jesus and his disciples were going by boat to the Gadarenes (which means the prize is at the end), a severe storm threatened their ability to reach their destination and even endangered their lives. This trial revealed two important things. When Jesus leads you, the devil himself will challenged you and do everything he can to change your direction.

Trials can be the enemy’s stumbling blocks to influence you to change your direction. Check it out by asking, “Is Jesus in my boat, or am I going it alone?” If Jesus is in your boat the devils confirming you’re on track by the trial your facing. Be assured, you’re close to fulfilling God’s plan for you in this season and that this trial will not last very long. They made it to their destination and a demonized man, as well as a whole region was freed from Satan’s control. Their trial couldn’t compare to the great victories accomplished by staying on their God-given course.

Setback doesn’t mean you should step back! If you endure the trial Satan sent your way, you’ll see the fruit of your efforts. Don’t give in or give up.…
